CREW CAPTAINS*
Captain Selection:
- Varsity level teams will have up to four (4) captains (2
male; 2 female); Novice level will have two (2) captains (1 male; 1 female)
- totaling six (6) captains for each rowing season.
- Coaches will recommend 3-4 rowers from each level and rowers
will then vote among themselves for their respective captains. A review of
Captain responsibilities should be referred to when the selection process
begins.
Captain Qualities:
- Academically in good standing
- Displays strong leadership skills
- Displays consistent good sportsmanship qualities
- Possesses strong communication skills
- Shows ability to mediate in difficult situations
- Shows tolerance and acceptance of all individuals
Captains will be Expected to:
- Attend all daily practices on time;
- Be responsible for motivating team in a positive manner at
all times;
- Be responsible for leading warm-ups before practice and ensuring
all equipment is brought down to river and put away after practices;
- Be responsible for any miscellaneous record keeping as directed
by coaches;
- Organize any gift giving endeavors;
- Be responsible for helping with fundraising activities as
needed;
- Serve as role models for all members of Shaker Crew;
- Be responsible for securing attendance sheets from main office
at Shaker High;
- Act as liaison with Mrs. Barbara Strand, Shaker Crew Advisor;
- Ensure all necessary school announcements are made.
- Crew Captains will be asked to attend SRA Board meetings
on a rotating basis.
*Note: Captains may also serve as officers
for Shaker Crew Club for the high school (i.e., President, Vice President, Secretary,
Treasurer). Officer positions may also be filled by holding elections with the
rowers.
