  • Can anyone sign up to be a Shaker Crew Rower? No, currently all rowers must be students of either Shaker Middle School (SMS) or Shaker High School (SHS). Grades 6 – 12 are eligible.
  • When does the Shaker Crew program run? Shaker Crew is a year round, all season club. The primary competitive regatta seasons are Spring and Fall. Shaker Crew hosts Summer and Winter conditioning programs which LEVEL UP all athletes alike. Whether crew is your focused sport or whether you are looking to work out in the off season, Shaker Crew can help you excel.
  • Is a U.S. Rowing Membership required? Yes, all Shaker rowers must be a current member of U.S. Rowing in order to be eligible to participate and compete in our program. This is a requirement for all regattas that we compete in. You can sign up via the following link: U.S. ROWING
  • Is a swim test required? Short answer is YES, however, a swim test is not required for our Winter Workout Program. Swim tests are conducted to the current U.S. Rowing standard (currently a 100 meter swim without touching, donning a life jacket while in the water, and treading water for 10 minutes). All swim tests are conducted at the SHS pool with a certified lifeguard.
  • Is transportation provided from school to the Albany Boat House? For Varsity rowers there is a bus provided by the North Colonie School District from SHS to the Albany Boat House. We currently utilize a parent volunteer carpool to transport the Modified rowers from SMS to the Albany Boat House (organized via a seasonal Signup Genius).
  • Where is the Albany Boat House Located? The Albany Boat House is located off Water Street (Exit 4A off 787 South). Set GPS for Corning Preserve Boat Launch.
